UD Press FAQ
What are the procedures for submitting a manuscript to the Press?
Authors/editors wishing to submit a manuscript to the University of Delaware Press should first send a proposal that describes the manuscript in some detail. For important information regarding proposal submission guidelines, please see Submission Guidelines. The press does accept unsolicited proposals, and will respond with an invitation to submit a manuscript should the press be interested in considering the work for acquisition.
What is your house style?
We use the University of Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition, in copyediting all manuscripts. Authors/editors should consult the sections of the manual dealing with formatting, notes, bibliographies, and indexes. We require the use of endnotes.
For spelling we use Webster’s Third International Dictionary, unabridged, and the Merriam-Webster’s Eleventh Collegiate Dictionary. Please use the first spelling given for each word.
All manuscripts must be double-spaced throughout, including endnotes and bibliography.
Do you hire freelance copyeditors, designers, indexers, etc.?
No. Such hirings are usually handled by our publishing partner, as they oversee the production process.
How often does the Board of Editors meet?
The Board generally meets six times during the academic year, usually in September, October, December, February, April, and May. Our reader’s report form for purposes of peer review may be accessed below.
