University of Delaware Press to Become New Home for Two Distinguished Series
April 6, 2026
Newark, DE – The University of Delaware (UD) Press will assume publication of two well-established, prestigious scholarly series currently published by Bucknell University Press (BUP): Transits: Literature, Thought & Culture, 1650-1850; and Scènes francophones: Studies in French and Francophone Theater. The transition of these series will officially occur on July 1, but editorial coordination is already underway to ensure that transition is seamless for authors and editors. These series have long served as essential venues for innovative scholarship in early modern, eighteenth-century, and Romantic studies, as well as francophone theater. Their move to UD Press reflects a shared commitment to sustaining scholarly dialogue across disciplines and supporting the scholarly communities these series represent. “The University of Delaware Press is proud to help maintain the legacy of Bucknell University Press through the continuation of these two field-defining series,” says UD Press Director Julia Oestreich. “Like Bucknell, UD Press is known for its dedication to publishing scholarship of the highest quality, while embracing series like Transits and Scènes francophones that are inclusive and innovative in their approach. Thus, while complementing our existing booklist, these series will also help us advance our editorial priorities.”
For nearly 60 years, Bucknell University Press has published distinguished scholarship, establishing numerous high-profile series including Transits and Scènes francophones. Bucknell Press Director Suzanne Guiod praises the transfer of the series: “I am pleased and grateful that these two premier series will find a home with UD Press, whose complementary editorial strengths will create strong synergy and ensure their development into the future. I’m confident that the excellent UD Press team and series editors will continue BUP’s tradition of showcasing rigorous scholarship from emerging and established voices in these fields.”
Series editors Miriam Wallace and Mona Narain describe Transits as “a landmark series with a tradition of bringing forth new and exciting work rooted in the long eighteenth-century and Romantic era, and attentive to cross-cultural and interdisciplinary global perspectives.” Wallace and Narain “are delighted to be hosted by UD Press, which has a long-standing commitment to the period and to interdisciplinary scholarship.”
As series editor Logan Connors explains, Scènes francophones is “North America’s only book series dedicated to French-language performance cultures.” Connors says of the transition, “Our advisory board is honored to partner with UD Press, and we look forward to the expertise and visibility Delaware will bring to the series.”
The University of Delaware Press is working closely with these editors to begin acquiring new projects and advance manuscripts currently in progress, and a web presence for the series will go live shortly before the official transition. Both series will continue to be distributed worldwide by UD Press distribution partner Rutgers University Press. More information about UD Press can be found at https://udpress.udel.edu. About University of Delaware Press The University of Delaware Press was established in 1922 during the presidency of Walter Hullihen, who believed, “Nothing . . . redounds more to the credit of an educational institution or adds more to its
prestige than a Press bearing its name, wisely administered, and issuing only books and journals of acknowledged and permanent value.” The Press publishes approximately 12–15 books per year in Literary Studies, especially Renaissance and Early Modern literature; Eighteenth-Century Studies; French literature and culture; Art History and Material Culture Studies; and cultural studies of Delaware and the Eastern Shore. Our prestigious series, such as The Early Modern Exchange, Early Modern Feminisms, Performing Celebrity, Material Culture Perspectives, and Studies in Seventeenth- and Eighteenth-Century Art and Culture, focus heavily on transnational and interdisciplinary scholarship.
